ESPs repaired on-line!

A company exists which may be able to assist the utility industry in solving many maintenance problems while generating units continue to produce. Problems which may be minor under normal circumstances may appear quite large when continued production is vital. Any failure while the unit is in production may be nearly impossible to repair because of excessive heat and/or noxious gases.
This problem is being addressed by a small company in Kansas City, MO. U.S. Boiler Services, Inc. has, during the last five years, successfully corrected a number of maintenance problems for Power Companies, Refineries and Paper Mills in the central and eastern parts of the United States. Skilled workers trained in the use of air conditioned suits equipped with cooled fresh air breathing apparatus are able to complete repairs in temperatures in excess of 500oF.
Note that to this date no recordable accidents have occurred during these operations. This excellent safety record is primarily due to an early intensive training session where workers experience simulated work conditions inside a 400'F oven. Safety and proper use of necessary equipment is stressed in these training sessions.
At the present time, U.S. Boiler Services, Inc. has performed work for Kansas City Power & Light, TVA, AEP, IL Power, NIPSCO, Centerior Energy group, VA Power, Ohio Power and others. A majority of the work has been in precipitator repair and inspection. At low load workers enter the ESPs to inspect, remove buildup of flyash, remove fallen wires and correct any electrical shorts that are present.
Work accomplished by U.S. Boiler Services Inc. encompasses a number of areas including skin casing, duct repair, repair of steam piping, tubes, valves, feed water leaks, burner removal and inspection, as well as other repairs.
